Finning is the largest distributer of Caterpillar equipment in the world and the CAT 797 is the largest dump truck globally. One of the largest fleets of 797s is located in the Alberta oil sands and maintained by Finning. This Project involved the design of a 16-bay facility for the maintenance and repair of Caterpillar equipment. The maintenance bays are sized for 793 and 797 mining trucks and can accommodate D11 (and smaller) dozers, 24M (and smaller) graders and 988 (and smaller) loaders.

The building is consistent of high volume with large spans conventional structural steel with reinforced concrete foundation. Insulated metal panels for building envelope including roof. The service facility has oversized maintenance bays, warehouse, wash bay, power systems building, 350-person change room, office and employee support spaces. Floor slabs measure half a metre (20”) thick to accommodate the heavy haul and track equipment. There are four 50-ton, six 20-ton, six 30-ton, and sixteen 5-ton cranes suspended within the facility.
