Main Street Skytrain Station

Project Value: $30 Million
Contractor: Graham Construction
Architects: VIA Architects
Project Status: Completed in 2015

From 2012 to 2015 the Main Street Skytrain Station was substantially renovated to achieve two primary goals:  a) improve public safety and accessibility, and b) enhance vertical passenger movement within the station. The existing station was significantly undersized and required these enhancements in anticipation of new residential development nearby.

The station platform was expanded eastward and new elevators, stairs and escalators were introduced throughout the station.  In addition, the station received a feature windscreen structure that establishes the station as an important Vancouver gateway, as well as improves the interior station climate conditions.

The project cost was approximately $30 million and involved complex structural renovations within an operating train station environment.  Detailed phasing and equipment access planning was required to ensure train operations were not compromised during construction.  Alan Nicholson was the Project Manager.
