Darren was the Principal-In-Charge for the design of this new 95-bed hospital with an overall gross area of 32,316 sq metres (348,000 sf.) hospital. This project was delivered under a P3 format and achieved LEED Gold level of sustainability. Darren provided leadership on behalf of the design firm responsible for the clinical planning, architecture, engineering and sustainability services to the Design-Builder. This project is unique because of its extensive use of Building Information Modeling (BIM). The design team fully leveraged BIM by creating a model that consisted of the full architectural, civil, structural, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and IMIT systems. The use of BIM software, especially in the design development phase, offered the design and construction team real-time feedback on the construction and budgetary impact of different design options. The designers exported quantities as the design progressed to the Builder who used these to confirm budgetary compliance. This approach ultimately resulted in greater cost certainty earlier in the design process, as well as more constructible designs, higher quality control, and fewer design-related delays during construction.
