Whistler Sliding Centre

Project Value: $110 million
Contractor: Heatherbrae Construction
Architects: Stantec
Project Status: Completed 2007

Darren Bryson was the Design Project Manager (Architecture and Engineering Services) for the Whistler Sliding Centre, a world-class destination for sliding sports.

The track is a combined bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track with up to 1,660 metres of refrigerated track length. The Whistler Sliding Centre site is in an area within the existing ski area boundary and used for recreation and maintenance storage as well as road access to Blackcomb Skiing mountain operations.

In 2008, this exceptional project was honoured with a Merit Award (Municipal) from the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia Engineering Excellence Awards, as well as two awards from BC Ready-Mixed Concrete Association (BCRMCA) – an Award of Excellence (Public Works category), and the newly created Century Award, recognizing an engineering achievement that, according to the judges, “only comes along every one hundred years.”
